The mayor of St. John’s believes the federal government is moving fast enough on support for climate change initiatives. The challenge, he believes, is for municipalities to come up with their portion of the cost-sharing.
Earlier this week, the federal government announced over $1.6-million for various climate change projects throughout the province.
Danny Breen says he is grateful for the money that has been allotted so far, but, he argues that communities have limited tools to raise money to keep up with infrastructure demands.
He would like to see more tools available so that municipalities can have more revenue streams. That way, he believes they can put more money into their own infrastructure.
