YOU SAID IT: Kudos for being loyal

KUDOS FOR STAYING LOYAL

Re: Liberals ‘pulling out all the stops’ to lure MPs, B.C. Conservative says, online, Jan. 5

In Canada, it’s not illegal or against parliamentary rules for a political party to encourage an MP to cross the floor, but it should be. It’s a reprehensible tactic that undermines the democratic process since most people vote according to a candidate’s political affiliation.

So, kudos to B.C. Conservative MP Scott Anderson for staying loyal to his constituents by rejecting federal Liberal offers to defect.

He’s clearly unwilling to sacrifice his political principles. That contrasts sharply with former Conservative MPs Michael Ma and Chris d’Entremont, who were enticed to join the governing Liberals.

FREELAND REWARDED FOR FAILURE

CEO of Rhodes Trust? Special representative for the reconstruction of Ukraine? Adviser on economic decisions?

Do these people not read the news? Chrystia Freeland and her Liberal cohorts have destroyed Canada. I doubt she could even operate a lemonade stand.

FORGIVE THE PAYMENTS

The federal government is now trying to recover $10.35 billion in CERB payments from individuals who were approved for the program back in 2020.

Justin Trudeau’s Liberals should have done a better job in reviewing CERB applications and cross-checking against CRA information before granting approvals. I recall Trudeau stating that his government had no time to properly check all applications as the priority was to get the federal money out the door as quickly as possible.

Given this admission of incompetence, the Mark Carney government should now be forgiving all CERB monies owing. Honest Canadians who followed the rules in 2020 should now not be punished financially for the incompetence of the Trudeau government.

Trudeau had “Wynne disease” in 2020 (where money grows on trees) or he lacked the respect for our limited tax dollars. Carney must do the right thing and forgive these CERB payments distributed in error.

I did not need CERB as a retiree, but I don’t like seeing Canadians getting screwed over because of government incompetence.
