With regard to the time zone debate, it surprises me that the so called “experts” have not consulted a map. Time zones are based on 15 degree increments falling on the middle of a time zone. Presumably, where the sun would be directly overhead at noon. The middle of the zone referred to as “Pacific” falls at a longitude of 120 degrees. This happens to be exactly on the straight part of the border between Northern Alberta and British Columbia. If time zones were not adjusted to accommodate political borders, the eastern edge of the time zone would be at 112.5 degrees. This means that most of Alberta, including Edmonton, Camrose, Red Deer, Drumheller, Calgary, and even Lethbridge would fall in the Pacific time zone. Since the edge of the real time zone is only a little east of our major population areas, if the “experts” are looking to have the sun overhead at noon, they should perhaps be promoting a half-hour shift and have an “Alberta” time that is between Mountain and Pacific.
