The wood buffalo RCMP has laid charges on a youth after receiving reports of a stolen vehicle early yesterday morning.
The incident is said to have occurred on Comeau Crescent in the Timberlea area of Fort McMurray, shortly after 2:00 a.m.
The vehicle was a black 2008 Buick Allure, which was allegedly stolen from its parked location and was then seen heading northbound on Highway 63 north of the Parson’s Creek exit.
Police said officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect allegedly failed to stop.
A pursuit was not initiated due to concern for public safety.
Officers later returned to patrol the neighbourhood where they say they found the vehicle parked in its original location and a male youth walking nearby.
Police arrested the youth and allegedly retrieved several stolen items including the keys to the Buick Allure.
The suspect, who cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was identified as a 16-year-old Fort McMurray male and is now facing theft-related charges and flight from a peace officer.
The youth has since been released from police custody and is set to appear in court on Oct. 20, 2026.
