I give the Oilers credit for signing Alex Formenton. By doing so, they have improved their team but, more importantly, they have reminded us that giving second chances is an essential part of the human experience. Yes, this man made a serious mistake 10 years ago when he was 18 years old. However, he was found not guilty of committing a criminal offence in a court of law by Justice Maria Carroccia. That decision is, of course, nowhere good enough for the “cancel crowd,” who are nothing more than a complete blight on our society.
The essence of Christianity is forgiveness since we all fall short time and time again. Like most of us, I was raised in a country called Canada that was actually founded on Judeo-Christian values. I am confident that Mr. Formenton will be an asset in many ways and I wish him well. Perhaps his presence and involvement in the community will even encourage our young men to live with more integrity than he did.

What are the Oilers teaching children?
Stop the world, I want off. Edmonton Oilers, shame on you. How dare you bring this player to our city? I hope you lose millions of the almighty dollars and fans all over.
What are you teaching young children? You can get away with the most disgusting acts? Please, go to all the women in your family and tell them to their face what you did. Tell them sports is more important that you. Shame on you all!
Marilyn Linton, Edmonton
