A woman is in critical condition following a dispute with a man that allegedly escalated on Sunday afternoon in Rougemont, in the Montérégie region.

According to initial reports, Sûreté du Québec (SQ) police officers were called at around 1:45 p.m. to a building on Petite-Caroline Street in Rougement.

Once there, they found a woman with serious injuries. She was taken to a hospital, where her condition is considered life-threatening.

The man also suffered serious injuries, but his life is not in danger, said SQ spokesperson Béatrice Dorsainville.

An investigation has been launched. “Details will follow at a later date regarding the nature of the case,” said Dorsainville.
