Laval mayor shares update on brain tumour online

Laval Mayor Stéphane Boyer took to social media on Monday to share a photo of the tumour in his brain.

Boyer got candid online, sharing that he recently had his first appointment with his neurosurgeon. He compared the tumour to the size of a golf ball. The news comes just one week after he announced that he had been diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The mayor says he had been experiencing headaches and visual disturbances for several months, which prompted him to undergo an MRI.

Boyer had previously opened up about suffering from ankylosing spondylitis for several years, a condition characterized by inflammation of the spine that causes stiffness and pain.

Although Boyer says the diagnosis brought up a lot of emotions, he’s trying to stay positive and is focusing on the small pleasures in life, such as donuts.

“I went to get my favourite donuts to share at the office,” he said.

Boyer became the youngest mayor in the city’s history when he was elected at 33 years old in 2021. He was re-elected in 2025.
